Ukraine vs. Italy

June 30th, 2006 | By: Andriy Korol | 42 Comments »

Tomorrow, the game which decides our destiny begins. No matter what happens, I want everyone to be proud of Ukraine’s accomplishments, our team got to the quarter finals and few saw that comming. If we bow out now, we bow out showing the world we are a competitor and are to be taken seriously. Having said that, although I’m ready for a disapointment if it comes, I’m still very nervous, as are many Ukrainian fans all over the world I’m sure. We know our team has the strength to ‘play with the big boys’. Ukraine can win this game, they need Shevhcenko to show us that he is worth over $50 million, they need Shovkovskiy to continue his perfect record, they need our midfield to play as they did against Switzerland, their defense will now be at full power as our key defenders return to the pitch. All the ingredients are there, we’re all confident it might and yet nervous that it might not.

Go Ukraine! Many here in the U.S.A. are pulling for you - including this Ukrainian-American in New Jersey!

Please tell me why any blog I read on any sight from the majority of Italians always seem to be offensive or crude? Is this natural? Have great difficulty trying to comprehend such vulgar inuendos.

this is natural from the italians you see, italians think that they are the only people that matter in the world….they think that they command football and everything would be lost without them…the only thing these italians do not realize is that their team actually sucks really badly and if it takes ukraine to show them how a fair team plays then so be it.

GO UKRAINE!!!

we have faith

this is a shame! Cheva crumbled several times in the box and no call for penalty ! There’s no respect for stars anymore or what?

Hard Luck Ukraine, you gave us a very exciting match. There were chances but unfortunately it didn’t happen. You should be extremely proud. The next WC is only 4 yrs away and I am sure you’ll be up there at the top again. Well done I just loved watching your team play.

There is “no luck,” and there is bad luck. Our guys had really bad luck. For every Italian goal, we had the ball hitting the crossbar, being barely blocked by Buffon, or hitting a defender when the net was open.

I heard Ukraine always loses when Yuschenko shows up. I felt for him when he was poisoned, but he should have kept his froggy face at home.

Players are always superstitious, and many fans too. Obviously our man Mr. Yuschenko went for cheap political gain at the expense of bringing bad luck. Even if no one can prove that he’s bad luck, the facts speak for themselves. Should have shown more respect!

Other than that, we got farther than expected…and I guess I would suggest that our fans forget the score. We lost today, but it was not an embarrassing game like against Spain. They were definitely on the field!

Still disappointed with Shevchenko. He had that good free kick and the nice spin move just before the end… But the score was already 3-0. Where was that move earlier, when we really needed it? It seemed like he was just showing off individual skills, making the point that he’s the best on the team. I don’t buy it, Sheva. Nice job saving yourself for the English season. Have a nice time playing against those cutthroat defenders. At Chelsea, you will be a marked man.

I was really cheering today for Ukraine because of all you guys have accomplished in so little time. If those balls hadn´t hit the bar and gone in than it would have been much different but football is also luck unfortunately.
Anyhow, congratulations on making this far. You guys should be really proud of your team.

See you in South Africa

Ukraine, thank you for your good game against us. I’m proud of our match. Sheva is a Myth. Good luck for next WC. I wish more than one Ukranian player could play in our League.

Most yellow cards given in one WC game went to Ukraine because of Italy? Pathetic, you don’t know how to play soccer! UKRAINE ALL THE WAY ALWAYS AND FOREVER!!! NO ONE can ever beat anything we do cause we do like Gods!

MOYA LUBOV MOYA KROF! UKRAINA! ;)

Raul:

Don’t you worry one bit. Ukraine will be back at the World Cup. Remember this name, “Ukraine”: because this team will still win a World Cup before your team even gets close.

It’s all Yushenko’s fault like Miguelinho said. I remember when they showed him on camera, I immediately thought of the bad luck he would bring.

It is very God like to loose to 3 European teams 7 - 0…….. One game had to be decided in PKS….. hardly an impersive victory and not very “God” like. The fact that you might not even be a country in 4 years tells me that I dont really think the “ukraine” will ever win a World Cup. And I wont shut up because when my team was sent home morons from your country had something to say so now its my turn…….

Losers!!!
