UKRAINE IS GOING TO THE QUARTER FINALS !!!!

June 26th, 2006 | By: Andriy Korol | 54 Comments »

I am way too full of emotional to write anything in depth. WE MADE IT. Shovkovskiy is amazing, he is our #1 player of this game, he always has been. I felt confident (somewhat) with him in net going into these kicks and he has proven himself in this game. We made it, we deserved it. OMG Switzerland plays some mean football and I must congratulate them on this game, because they showed some real class and deserve all the respect. This was a clean game not decided by a referee but decided by goaltenders

Results (2nd Stage): Switzerland vs Ukraine

Happiness vs Sadness. Relief vs Disbelief. Triumph vs Defeat.

Both teams were heavily matched who relied on their midfield strength to win the ball for a swift counterattack anchored on each team’s strikers. As such was the story of Switzerlan…

pwnawannab: ‘pelmeni’ is actually russin dish. Ukrainian is called ‘varenyky’, they are prepared differently (here in Canada they call them ‘pierogi’ btw, it’s polish name for ‘varenyky’) ;)

Aside from the food offtopick, I’m just happy for Ukraine’s win today.

And I don’t understand those who called the game boring. Rarely I have seen a game with so much internal tension and suspence, building up through the main and extended time and up to the final climax in penalty kicks. Maybe not flashy, but boring – no.

Good job Ukraine! The team deserves it all the way. They proved for 2 hours that their defenders were solid and their mid-fielders entirely capable, and in the end prevailed where it counts.

There’s absolutely nothing to lose against Italy now. Even to lose to Italy is to have already done the seemingly impossible. What the team needs is some rest and a boost in confidence (let’s hope Shevchenko’s still confident). On the field, let’s hope they can find the strength, courage, and creativity to drive through the Italian defence. I would honestly love to watch another 2 hour match with no score if it meant the game would go to penalty kicks. We know Ukraine’s strong in that department!

Joga Bonito guys and please win against Italy. Best of luck the whole world is on ur side against Italy even if some ppl hate u,they surely must hate the Italians more caus at least u guys won on skill at the penalty shootout, where as Italy man, all I will say is it was a black day for football and anyone who is a true supporter of football,Joga Bonito and who is an enemy of the dive will support u guys when u play this bunch of Italian cheats. Go get em Ukraine!!! u have more than enough skill to beat these SOB’s. Go the Shevchenko express and hope he gets a hat trick and proves finally at the WC,what a great player he is caus his miss at the penalty’s was shattering.

I would so love to see Ukraine send Italy home but I can’t see it happening. I wager the Ukrainians are just too satisfied with reaching the quarters. They will be too over- awed by the occasion, lose and finish the match with smiles on their faces. If they did really go for it and make it a real test for italy then I would be extremely happy. Just don’t think it’s gonna happen. Would love to be proved wrong.

The ‘krainers have been the Wurst team in the world cup purely b’coz of their sheer lack of creativity up front.Sheva and Shovkovskiy et al have been disappointing to say the least. The Azzurri shud beat ‘em but i don’t think it should make for very exciting viewing.Gooooooo Ukritaly hahaha!!!!

Go Ukraine, were all behind you, just aim for the semi’s you got the talent and the skill. Don’t be threatened by the Italians blowing themselves up out of all proportion, they are in my opinion a ‘has been team’. We need new people at the top and your just the team to do it.

All the best I’ll be rooting for you all the way!!

******Go Ukraine******
