Shev Sets European Cup Scoring Record

April 4th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 2 Comments »

It was a beauty of a goal, the final one in a 3-1 AC Milan victory over Olympique Lyon and with it Andriy Shevchenko became the all-time leading goal scorer in European Cup history. It was his 52nd goal in Europe’s premier club competition, one more than Real Madrid striker Raul. Here’s hoping there are some more records in store for A.S. this summer!

Not only did Sheva score a well-deserved goal in injury time by keeping his cool after beating the goalie and curling it in from a sharp angle, he was directly responsible for the first Inzaghi goal, and made the shot that hit both uprights before Inzaghi pounced on his second goal. Without Sheva, Milan would have been sent packing…. as mentioned previously, let’s hope he can continue to do the same through June and into July.
