This is to Zagreb! Marko and Yevy are Molodetz!

What about the red card rooney should have picked up for his above the knees attempted slide tackle vs Aliev? Please tell me that you were watching the same game? If Aliev or any other eastern european player was to go in on rooney like that he would’ve been shown a red card immediately. you know nothing about futbol zagreb. Terry should’ve been shown red too for breaking voronins nose in the box. open yr eyes zagreb. english officials would never call that on an english player but we weren’t playing in Kiev now were we zagreb? you are a durak!

Go Ukraine! The team looks ready. Sheva’s scoring goals again. I noticed they’ve already postponed domestic matches to prepare for Greece. Can’t wait for the 14th. Slava Ukraine!!

Nazarenko is hurt and will not be on the squad for either playoff game. Massive blow in my opinion. We can still hope….

Yep – sounds like injury… I’m a bit bummed about Voronin not making the cut, either… but good to see Chygrynskiy back – he’s quality

Ach – Voronin didn’t even dress for Liverpool v Birmingham today. Sounds like they barely scraped the draw. Tough times for Liverpool. That should have been a win.

Voronin has been useless for the National team and scoring goals in the Bundesliga means nothing. Shovkovsky had no chance of seeing the pitch anyways, so no big loss. But Nazarenko……that’s troublesome!

He has been quiet recently – I think I’ve got a soft spot for him and his aggressive style. Getting very excited about the weekend. Sounds like Mykhailychenko is looking to go more on the “offence” in Athens. Should make for an exciting Saturday.

i was thrilled when we drew Greece…but now, I dont know. They seem super confident. I WAS excited, but then I heard Naz was out, now I’m just nervous. I don;t see where the goals will come from unless Milevsky somehow recieves the torch.

Good luck to Ukraine. I hope they can make it to South Africa. I would much prefer watching them then Greece, especially if Greece are going to play as they did at Euro 2008.

Well written, nicely done! I hope to read some more…..about the team in South Africa. First we have to figure out a way to score some goals.

Nice blog, great insight…..much better that Bobby Mc on Fox sports.

too bad Igor Belanov cant replace Voronin. Watch those greeks they like to tackle from behind

but have to admit i’m more interested in the ads on this page.

An away draw – well, I think Ukraine settled some critics with that effort. So many predictions for an away loss. It’s going to be up to our boys at home now – WIN, and we’re in!
Unable to add to the blog this evening, unfortunately. Sorry everyone – more tomorrow.

Good article. Losing my patience with Milevsky a little bit. What worries me now is one Greek goal now counts as two cause of stupid aggregate rule. A 1-1 tie would favour Greece. We have to score and not concede. I hope we can smoke them and not always have to watch a nail biter.

Good luck on both the match and the blog (if you qualify). The match was dead boring to my eyes, and our team was absolute shite. Your outfit isn’t quite what it used to be, but I think the hometown pressure will be telling.

If Sheva is blanketed and Nazarenko out, who will score? It certainly won’t be Milevsky, he’s been invisible in big games. I can see goals very hard to come by, and I don;t forsee Ukraine scoring one. Its sad but true…just can;t picture it. Rain wont help matters, I was hoping it would be freezing….anyways, big crowd might help. Good luck, we’ll need it!

hahahaha, I love that bit about automatic qualification. I don;t think I could have taken another playoff loss. I too was shocked and saddenned after the game. I had to check the updates at work. I hadn’t eaten all day and when I saw the 1-0 with the 1 beside the Greek Flag after hitting refresh, my heart sank.
Looking towards the future, we have been doing rather well in under 21 and under 19 with some names like Artem Kravets, Dmitri Korkishko, Denys Garmash…so there is some hope. Hosting a major tournament in 2012 should increase interest (and soccer related infrastructure) in the country. Also, schools have now implemented mandatory soccer programs all over the country. The future has serious potential.
The most important thing for the next two years is increasing our FIFA ranking. A lot of people suggest its meaningless, but it isn’t. Take Greece for example, which has been the benefactor of an extremely generous ranking for the last few years. This seeds them as the top team in their qualifying groups and helps avoid the REAL powerhouses like Italy, Germany and Spain. Keep on supporting the team..they`ll be back!

Honestly, I knew Greece was the worst possible draw. I would have preffered any of the other teams, especially Russia. Greece knows how to choke teams out. I’m sure all their games will end up 0-0, and they won’t make it past the round-robin stage. I hope Shev plays in Euro 2012, I cant see why he wouldnt. I also really like our coach Mychailychenko. ugh, still upset though, and I really thought we’d make it. No more competitive games till 2012.
