OLE Oleh Gusev

February 9th, 2006 | By: James | 2 Comments »

Dynamo Kiev’s highly rated midfielder Oleh Gusev was named Ukrainian player of the year last month, narrowly edging out Anatoliy Tymoschuk and Matuzalem of Shaktar Donetsk. Gusev was an integral part of the team that helped Ukraine qualify for the World Cup in Germany, their first major tournament.

The highly rated creative midfielder is technically sound and will be charged with laying on the service for the talented frontline in Germany. Although he only has one goal for the national team in 22 caps he has scored 12 goals for Dynamo Kiev in just over 60 appearances. Yeah I know it’s not that great and he doesn’t quite have the game to goal ratio as someone like Frank shoot from anywhere Lampard, Michael Ballack or a few of those trick ponies at Brazil, but if teams don’t to their homework or keep a close eye on Gusev they could be made to pay and he could become one of the stars of the tournament.

He’s also just signed a new 5 year contract at Kiev, putting to an end speculation in the Ukrainian and Italian press that he would be signing for AC Milan. Gusev would like to conquer Europe with Kiev and although this seems unlikely due to the resurgance of the Kop, don’t be surprised to see Gusev trying his hand in one of the stronger sides from Serie A, La liga or the Premiership.

But first the 22 year old should concentrate on comquering the world.

I think you might be right. Alot of teams won’t know what to expect from him which will be to his and the teams advantage. With Gusev’s passing ability I expect him to create alot of scoring opportunities for th front men.
