Costa Rica was a warm up at home, but how will Ukraine fair against Italy ?

May 29th, 2006 | By: Andriy Korol | 9 Comments »

As you all know by now, Ukraine handled Costa Rica 4-0 on Sunday. It was a good victory, but lets keep in mind this is a country expected to under perform in the World Cup and this was a game played with home advantage. Personally, I wasn’t too motivated by this victory. This Friday June 2, we will be facing Italy for a friendly. It looks to be our most testing and most important friendly before the World Cup. The venue is Switzerland. Personally, I’m gonna make a 1-0 win for Ukraine, anyone else with a prediction ? :O)

I don’t know how Ukraine will do, but I just hope nobody from either squad gets hurt. As an Italy fan, I believe the Italians will not take Ukraine lightly; Ukraine is a threat.

Of course, it’s just a friendly, right? But rest assured, neither squad will want to go into the cup following a loss… even if it’s “just a friendly.”

3-2 with Italy winning for me, Ukraine’s strike force will be a pain in the ass for Nesta and Cannavaro, but Toni, Gila and possibly Totti will terrorise the Ukrainian defense.

not sure if Sheva is playing

“Blokhin expected Shevchenko to rejoin the team before they headed off to Switzerland at the end of May. “

I think it will end 1:1, a boring affair with Italy getting a cheap goal early, locking down their defences, and Ukraine snatching a tying goal in the dying seconds. It won’t raise (or lower) the stock in either team leading up to the world Cup. What can help (or harm) Ukraine is the other two games… should be minimum 4:0 vs Libya and Luxembourg.
