It would be a reasonable strategy to play for a tie actually, but not a very honorable one. I’m sure most of the Spanish players would prefer to prove themselves against the best, given the choice. It’s a question of pride, after all.

Im not sure I understand, if theam that finishes first is more likely to not face Brazil in the quarters, so why aim for a draw and not a win ? Unless their goal is to play defensively and keep us at 0-0 because they have no confidence in scoring :O)

Brazil is an intimidation, they are no more a threat than half of the other countries in the cup, they are the favorite and that is it, strange things happen in the World Cup, theres a good chance Croatia may finish first in that group, they can handle Brazil….

anyways, what difference does it make who we play, to be the best you have to beat the best !

Aragones is a bit crazy to start with. So it doesn’t really matter what he does. Really I am surprised that he is still coaching the Spanish national team. They haven’t really acheived anything worthwhile in the last couple of years.

Having said that, flowers are just flowers. They are not a sign of anything at this point. The national colors of the team are yellow and blue. At the same time, the FIFA banner i saw at one of the matches today had yellow text on blue background. These, gentlemen, are the colors of this World Cup. It is nothing more than that.

By the way, I was talking about the cup with someone today and they said that Spain might intentionally play for a draw. The reason for is so that they dont have to face Brazil in the second round. That is an interesting conjecture. We shall see how thing thing plays out.

Luis Aragones rejected a welcoming bouquet of flowers because he apparently saw as an insult to his virility. Next time give him a small bottle of ginseng, or a dozen oysters.
